About

Two things decide a tie, and you are told neither of them.

Get Custom Ties makes neckwear to order — woven jacquard silk, printed silk, school and club stripes, bow ties, skinny and knitted ties, and clip-on and breakaway safety ties.

Custom printed ties with logo

The first is the cut. Silk has to be cut at forty-five degrees to the weave — on the true bias — and doing that wastes about a third of the cloth. That waste is exactly why it is the first thing a cheap tie skips, and a tie cut off-grain twists and curls on the first wear. Pressing does not fix it. Nothing fixes it.

The second is the interlining: the wool layer inside that decides how big the knot sits and whether the tie springs back after a day tied. Its weight is a number, and it is the number that separates a tie that recovers overnight from one that stays creased all week.

Neither appears on a normal quote, so we put both on ours.

Why we exist

Ties are bought on a colour swatch and a price, in quantities where nobody has time to examine one closely.

So schools end up with a batch that does not match last year’s. Clubs get a printed crest where a woven one was wanted. Hospitality teams get a hundred bow ties on one neckband length. And everybody gets ties that curl within a month, which is the bias again.

The slip stitch, and why ties tear at the fold

Inside a properly made tie there is a single loose thread running its whole length, with a bar tack at each end. It looks like a fault and it is the opposite of one.

That thread lets the tie stretch as it is knotted and pull back into shape afterwards. Sewn tight, or left out altogether, the tie has nowhere to give — so it tears along the fold instead, usually within a term of daily knotting.

What we actually make

Woven jacquard silk, where the crest or stripe is made by the loom and has depth you can feel. Printed silk, for gradients and photographic detail a loom cannot resolve. School and club stripes with the widths, angles and colour references held on file. Bow ties, self-tie and pre-tied, on properly sized adjustable neckbands. Skinny and square-ended knitted ties in two widths. And clip-on and breakaway ties with a specified release force.

Every conventional tie is bias cut, slip stitched and bar tacked, whatever it costs.

How we price

No dollar figures on this site. Price moves with cloth, construction, decoration method and quantity, and it falls steeply at school and uniform volumes. Send the details and a real quote comes back the same day, with a lowest-price guarantee if you are already holding a cheaper one.

What we will talk you out of

Silk for a tie a fourteen-year-old wears every day. Printing a crest that should be woven. One blade width for a whole company. A crest so fine it cannot survive being woven at tie scale.

We would rather lose the upsell than have the ties come back.
