Matching a School Tie for Decades

A school or club tie has to match itself for thirty years, across suppliers, dye lots and mill changes. Most of them quietly stop.

How drift happens

Each reorder is matched to the batch before it. Every match is within tolerance, and every match is very slightly off.

Ten reorders later the tie is a visibly different colour from the one in the archive, and no single order was ever wrong.

The fix is boring and complete

Match to the original strike-off, every time, and keep it. Keep the stripe widths and angles as numbers rather than as a picture.

We hold all of that against your account, so a reorder in eight years does not depend on anybody remembering anything.

Cloth choice matters more than people expect

Polyester holds colour under sunlight far better than silk and washes without dulling, which is why it is the right answer for daily school wear even where budget is not the issue.

Keep silk for staff, prize and formal ties, where it will be worn occasionally and looked at closely.

Send us an old tie

A physical tie beats every colour reference. We can match cloth, stripe geometry and crest scale from one, including for schools whose original spec was lost decades ago.
