Printed Silk Ties

Printing exists here for one reason: some artwork cannot be woven. Gradients, photographic detail, fine multi-colour illustration and very small type all reproduce far better printed than they do on a loom.

What printing is not is the cheap way to do a crest. A woven crest has physical depth and a printed one does not, and on a tie people see close up the difference is obvious. We will tell you which your artwork wants, including when that answer costs us the print job.

Everything else is built the same way as our woven ties — true bias cut, wool interlining with the weight stated, slip stitch and bar tacks — because the construction is what decides whether the tie survives, regardless of how the pattern got there.

Printed or woven?

Woven for a crest, a stripe or anything that should feel like part of the cloth. Printed for gradients, photographs and very fine multi-colour detail that a loom simply cannot resolve.

Does printing wear off?

Not on properly printed and fixed silk — the dye is in the fibre, not on top of it. What printing cannot give you is the physical depth of a woven pattern, which is a look rather than a durability question.
